Advance Track Setting Systems was founded by Rick Potts who started grooming at a local wilderness centre (East of Edmonton, Alberta) in the winter of 1990. He started with some home made setters with buckets of bolts for weight behind an older Alpine snowmobile. Humble beginnings for sure. Rick became interested in the grooming process. His supervisor at the time, encouraged him to come up with better designs, construct the equipment and try it out. Rick really never stopped designing, building and experimenting with the trail grooming equipment on the trails. Because of his Supervisor's encouragement and very high standards Rick started the company with the idea to manufacture high quality, affordable grooming equipment for Canadian clubs and communities to promote the sport of cross country skiing.
Rick as a full time groomer logged on average of over 2,000 kms per winter season and had the chance to groom in low snow and ice to heavy snowfall conditions using his own equipment, from school ski lessons to holding major cross country country skiing events.
Rick retired 2017 and decided to wind down the business but continued to find time to groom.
Fast forward to 2020, Jim Lamoureux, a retired Professional Engineering Technologist, Journeyman Tradesperson, experienced fabricator, construction safety officer, business owner, avid recreational skier and volunteer trail groomer, was looking for an interesting , outdoor sports related manufacturing opportunity. During a grooming work shop at the same local wilderness centre in late 2020, I was made aware of the Advance Track Setting Equipment as well as the gap in availability for simple, effective grooming equipment that resulted since Rick's retirement. Armed with that information, I immediately contacted Rick and shortly thereafter purchased the intellectual property.
I already owned a small fabricating shop. The pieces were falling into place.
Advance Track Setting Systems has now been relaunched in early 2021. Interest in the Advance Track Setting Systems equipment was almost immediate and manufacturing has commenced.
I look forward to the opportunity to serve you.
